About
SIMON "SKYGRASS" BOWDEN
is a Singer/Songwriter/Producer/Multi-instrumentalist and Visual Artist from Kingston, Jamaica. Simon Bowden aka SKYGRASS has always had a natural lyrical ability. Excelling in poetry at a very young age, he was always fascinated by words and quotes. This developed into a love for reggae and dancehall music at age 7 as he vividly recalls hearing songs from artists such as Buju Banton and Shabba Ranks playing in Half Way Tree and on the bus ride home from school. Songs he would sing over and over to himself when most children his age would be playing games or doing homework. This developed into songwriting and performing when he began playing the guitar in his teens. Joined by his cousin Rasheed. The two expanded the movement by collaborating with other friends and live musicians sharing stages with artists such as Third World and Maroon 5. SKYGRASS entered the world of music through live performances and developed into recording as Simon built his own studio from the ground up, producing the first SKYGRASS recorded project, I AM KING. This eclectic reggae experience featured collaborations with artists Kabaka Pyramid, Steve Newland of Rootz Underground and a critically acclaimed remix “Pass the Kush” with reggae veteran, the late Frankie Paul. Since then, SKYGRASS has collaborated with renowned soundman turned producer Rory Stonelove releasing hard hitting singles such as “Immortal Steppa”- a heavy dub reggae track from Rory’s Black Dub Label - and “Good Motion Girl”, a cool island tune with fun uplifting lyrics for positive women. An artist and a movement that represents unity, motivated by the spiritual belief that we are all a part of the one great symphony of life, SKYGRASS is continues to contribute to Jamaican music through songs, performances, music production and promotion of the music festival series, Cosmic Rotation. |
